This porcelain patio in Horsley, Surrey had built up years of staining, blackspot and algae growth across the full surface — the kind of thing that comes on gradually enough that you stop noticing it until you see the before photo.

The problem: blackspot and ingrained staining on porcelain
Porcelain paving looks stunning when it’s clean, but it does pick up blackspot and organic staining — particularly in shaded areas and where water sits after rain. Once algae gets established, even a dry surface can be slippery. The customer had tried to keep on top of it themselves but the staining had become too ingrained for domestic cleaning products to shift.
What we did
- Assessed the full patio area and identified the worst-affected sections
- Used our rotary surface cleaner at appropriate pressure for porcelain — enough to lift the staining without risking damage to the tile surface or joints
- Worked methodically across the full area including the side path and steps
- Cleared all debris and rinsed the surface thoroughly on completion

The result
The full patio came up extremely well — the porcelain is back to its original bright, clean finish. The difference was significant enough that the customer said it looked like a new patio. With a clean surface like this, annual maintenance cleans are much quicker and easier than letting it build up again.
